## Who can create a canvas?

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Supported on **any Air plan**
✏️ Anyone that has **edit** access to a workspace

You can create or open a canvas from any board or compatible asset. Once generated, your canvas is saved and available within the board for you to return to at any point. In this article, we'll walk through how to create a canvas, rename it, and begin adding your creative assets.

## Create a canvas

1. Navigate to a board view and click on the **Create** button located in the top right corner of the screen to open the creation menu.

2. From the dropdown menu, select **Create new canvas**. This will generate a new canvas that will be saved and available within the board. You can also start a canvas workflow from an asset’s **Edit** view. Open the asset, switch to **Edit**, then choose **Edit in Canvas** to open the selected asset in a Canvas editing workflow.

3. Once the canvas is generated, the board view will shift to allow you to see the canvas alongside your existing files. New canvases start with the AI model selector set to **Auto**. Click on the default **Untitled Canvas** title at the top to rename the canvas to whatever you prefer.

4. Begin creating and adding content to your canvas. You can either click the **Agent** button in the bottom right corner to use the AI assistant, or select items from your board and drag and drop them directly into the canvas area.

To return to a canvas later, open the board’s **Canvases** tab and select an existing board-connected canvas. Your work is saved there so you can continue from where you left off.
